Spedden
Spedden
Nestled in the heart of central Alberta, Spedden exudes the charm of a quintessential hamlet. Situated within Smoky Lake County, this quaint community lies just 0.3 kilometers north of Highway 36, offering a peaceful retreat approximately 106 kilometers southwest of Cold Lake.
Originally named Cache Lake, Spedden was later renamed after one of the original surveyors who tragically passed away in the area in 1919. This change marked the beginning of a new era for the hamlet. In 1919, Spedden welcomed the arrival of a Canadian National rail-line, a significant milestone that paved the way for further development in the region. By the year's end, residents of St. Paul played a pivotal role in extending the line an additional 50 kilometers through Ashmont to their locality, further connecting communities and facilitating growth.
