Village of Chipman
Coyote Country
One of Chipman’s biggest draws is its strong community spirit. Each June, the Chipman Car Crafters host the popular Show n’ Shine, featuring hundreds of vehicles, including vintage cars, trucks, tractors, buses, and fire trucks.
The event is more than a car show; it brings together residents, visitors, volunteers, and local groups. The well-known perogy lunch adds a warm local touch and reflects the area’s Ukrainian heritage. That heritage is also visible in Chipman’s historic churches. St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, built in 1916, and Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church help tell the story of early Ukrainian settlers who shaped the region. Their architecture, cemeteries, and long parish histories make them meaningful stops for anyone interested in culture, photography, architecture, or family history. Chipman is small, but it feels welcoming and active. Visitors can stop at local businesses, enjoy the slower pace of village life, and see how history and community pride continue to shape the town. The nearby countryside, open skies, and access to Elk Island National Park add to its appeal for nature lovers. Gliders from the Edmonton Soaring Club, which operates from the Chipman airstrip, also add an unexpected touch to the landscape. Overall, Chipman offers a memorable mix of heritage, hospitality, agriculture, and volunteer spirit. Whether someone comes for the Show n’ Shine, the churches, the perogies, the nearby park, or a peaceful Alberta backroads experience, Chipman is a warm and worthwhile stop in Coyote Country.
