Town of Vegreville
People our core, innovation our strength, community our intention
Vegreville is one of east-central Alberta’s most vibrant cultural centres—a town where Ukrainian heritage, artistic achievement, and community pride come together in unforgettable ways.
At its heart stands the world-famous Pysanka, a breathtaking 31-foot-tall Easter egg and engineering marvel that has become a symbol recognized across the globe. Designed using groundbreaking computer-aided geometric modelling, the Pysanka features thousands of facets, star patterns, and triangles, along with inscriptions in English, French, German, and Ukrainian, celebrating the harmony of the many cultures that built Vegreville. Unveiled in 1973 to honour the RCMP’s centennial, the Pysanka reflects both the region’s deep Ukrainian roots and the peace and security early settlers found here. Visitors can experience this heritage firsthand during the annual Vegreville Pysanka Festival, a three-day celebration filled with traditional food, music, dance, folk art, and hands-on workshops. Surrounded by rolling parkland and prairie beauty, Vegreville offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that embodies the spirit of rural Alberta. It’s a town with a story—rich, colourful, and proudly shared with everyone who comes to explore it.
