Town of Bruderheim
Where Alberta’s Biggest Meteorite Found Its Home
Bruderheim has a story that fell from the sky. In 1960, a meteorite raced over this small town, shaking homes across 5,000 square kilometres.
Around 700 fragments were recovered, making it the largest recovered meteorite fall in Canada. A piece of it still sits at the Bruderheim Fire Hall today, free to visit! But the real action happens at the Agricultural Grounds, where the Bruderheim Agricultural Society keeps the summer packed! You can expect drag races, obstacle courses, youth mud, and demolition derby that draw crowds from across the region. Every August, Heritage Days brings the community together for food, music, and celebration. Year-round, there is public skating and hockey at the Karol Maschmeyer Arena, the Cosmic Skatepark for younger visitors, and the paved Bruderheim trail. The Walker School Museum opens on Canada Day, and by appointment for anyone wanting to get into local heritage. Come on down. There is always something going on in the town of Bruderheim!
