Dewberry
Home of the World's Largest Chuckwagon
Dewberry is a small hamlet in central Alberta in the County of Vermilion River. It was named after the dewberries that once grew in the area.
The community has deep agricultural roots and a long tradition of bringing people together through local events. The Dewberry & District Agricultural Society, formed in 1972, continues to play an important role in community life. One of Dewberry's best-known traditions is its chuckwagon racing heritage. The first races were held in 1976, and today the annual Dewberry Chuckwagon Races continue to attract visitors with professional chuckwagon races, chariot races, and flat races. Dewberry is also the hometown of champion chuckwagon racer Kurt Bensmiller, whose success has helped strengthen the community's connection to the sport. During the winter, the Dewberry Cutter Rally brings residents and visitors together for a horse-drawn cutter ride, prizes, supper, and a hot dog roast along the route. Visitors can also stop for a photo with the World's Largest Chuckwagon, a tribute to the hamlet's rich racing history. Whether people come for the events, the history, or the friendly small-town atmosphere, Dewberry offers a welcoming place to experience Alberta's agricultural traditions.
