Redwater
Local History and Outdoor Adventure in Redwater
Redwater is a welcoming Alberta community with a relaxed small-town feel and several local places to explore. Visitors can spend time at the Redwater Community Golf Club, a public nine-hole course that was established in 1959.
Stop by the Redwater Museum, which is often described as a hidden gem, to learn about the area’s history from homesteading through Redwater’s oil-boom years. For outdoor activities, Redwater Provincial Recreation Area is located about 10 kilometres east of town. The area has sandy soils, aspen forest, and designated trails that people use for hiking, off-highway vehicle riding, snowmobiling, and geocaching. Hunting is allowed only where permitted, and hunters need firearms discharge permits; target shooting is not allowed. Since the recreation area is day-use only, overnight stays are not permitted. Visitors should also check current Alberta Parks advisories before heading out because access, fire bans, OHV restrictions, and trail conditions can change. Overall, these local attractions give Redwater a nice mix of community charm, history, and outdoor adventure.
