Day Trip to Whitney Lakes Provincial Park
Whitney Lakes Provincial Park is made up of four lakes just waiting to be discovered; Ross Lake, Whitney Lake, Laurier Lake and Borden Lake. Each one has its own unique features so we hope you plan to visit more than once.
If fun in the sun is what you and your family like, then we suggest Ross Lake or Whitney Lake. Ross has three beautiful natural sand beaches and Whitney has one. They both await your arrival, whether you choose to bury your toes in the sand and relax on the shore with a good book or you simply want to chill on a floatie. Kids will have a blast swimming and playing in the water and, when that gets old, they can head over to the playground for awhile. Both lakes have an excellent boat launch so go ahead and take a tour or go waterskiing or tubing. If fishing is your passion, drop a line and try your luck at a perch or pike.
Laurier Lake has fewer amenities but is the largest of the four lakes with a great boat launch. This lake really is for water lovers so get out their with your boat, canoe, kayak or paddle board and enjoy the day!
Borden Lake is the most rustic and isolated of the four and is non-motorized. If you like your adventure a bit on the back country side, then this is the lake for you.
Whitney Lakes Provincial Park is not just about chilling and relaxing. If your idea of family time is a bit more physical, you can still have fun in the sun here. Over 30km. of trail connect three of the lakes that you can explore on your bike or hike. Get close with nature as you watch for the elusive tiger salamander as well as other amphibians like the boreal chorus frog, wood frog and Canadian toad. Watch for larger species too as the park is home to black bear, deer, moose, beaver, red squirrel and flying squirrels.
What makes Whitney Lakes PP a special place is the spectacular and provincially significant esker and kettle formations formed when the glaciers retreated. This trail is open to foot traffic only and the views are simply breathtaking. This, for sure, is a do not miss activity while in the Park.
