The world is a stage. So said one of Shakespeare’s characters. In this case, let the library in Lac La Biche be your stage in the poem writing contest during Library Con 2023: Renaissance.
Find your muse. The dog or cat could work. Then, craft something like Sir John Harington’s Of Treason:
Treason doth never prosper, what’s the reason?
For if it prosper, none dare call it Treason.
And you could win pizza and more. Harington also invented the flush toilet in 1596, which may be why he wrote one of the shortest Renaissance poems ever. We digress.
Throw on your best Renaissance cosplay outfit—too soon for the Black Plague costume?—and visit Stuart MacPherson Public Library on Saturday, January 7 from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM for Renaissance-themed activities beyond the poem writing, with categories for all ages up to adult.
Go on a treasure quest, make unique crafts, participate in the costume contest, and have your fortune told by Chelsie Chiplin, from Restore Wellness, as she consults her mystical tarot and oracle cards.
Vendors will be peddling their wares, trinkets and services. The enchanting Mermaid Princess and Beauty Princess from A Charmed Affair will be holding court with all their library subjects from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
